Bunker Bean – Hornsby

Bunker Bean – Summary

Bunker Bean - Hornsby
It is a great sign that new cafes are popping up around Hornsby, but when they are on the “other” side of the tracks, it can be hard to notice them. This cafe, open now since Aug 2012, has only just grabbed my attention as I was wandering around Hornsby Station. It offers a nice escape from the station bustle and likely gets a good range of through traffic.

As for coffee, they are using another brand of coffee that I have not seen before. Apparently Delano coffee is roasted by one of their friends up in the Gong and so it was the natural choice for them. I would rate it somewhere between an AllPress and a Golden Cobra coffee, with a distinctive level of dark, robust (milk dependant) coffee. While I am much more likely to recommend The Refinery Espresso cafe as they roast in house and really care for each coffee, the guys here will be able to make a robust, strong flavoured coffee, which avoids the industrial burn of other unmentionable brands. Sure my mac had too much milk and froth, but I am sure 90% of people wouldn’t care that much.

So as cafes go, these guys have a great location for the ever expanding Hornsby, they make a decent coffee, and have a secluded space inside with #powerwhoring available and free WiFi. Not only that, they’ve avoided the major brands and are supporting an apparently ethical coffee roaster. That’s a lot of thumbs up.

N.B.
The have #powerwhoring available in between the couch and the table in the back room.
They have public WiFi available
