With new owners comes the inevitable worry about the impact on the coffee, but it seems that Joe Black has managed to make the transition and still provide a reliable source of good 5 Senses coffee. As they still have a single origin and cold drip on offer, their focus on providing a broad coffee experience to their customers is clear.

I started off with their Ethiopian Kochere Yiracheffe as an espresso and was a bit underwhelmed by what it delivered. Rather than a citrusy, floral experience, I got much more of a molasses, syrupy, dark coffee. Wasn’t bad, but certainly didn’t taste like I’d expect from a Yiracheffe.

To finish off I grabbed a mac, and think that I suffered the latte art of macs, where to make it pretty a little too much milk is added. All I can say is give me ugly looking delicious coffee any day… 🙂

So while the individual coffees I had today were not excellent, the staff service and attention to each coffee does promise lots of potential. With so many great cafes in this area, it is now up to them to live up to it.
