Mocha'ry - Drummoyne
On the suggestion of another cafe owner who had driven by this place one too many times, I find time in my **cough** busy schedule to drop by and give them a go. As a Sydney-sider I had not heard of or tried DC coffee before so I had no expectations. To see a Melbourne based coffee in Sydney, the first question was, what is it doing here?

Apparently the owners happened to be at a coffee convention in Melbourne trying a tonne of coffee, and this happened to be the one they they found to be a full bodied and smooth coffee (exactly what they were looking for). So… long story short, the first coffee I tried was the single origin of the week, and El Salvador (Finca La Esperanza) which was smooth, and generally mellow with a bite of brightness of lemon that, to be honest, stayed a little too long for my liking. Not a bad drop other than that.

Then I went for their house blend, the DC Monsoon coffee, which as the name would suggest is based on the the hard times of ages past when coffee beans were accidentally left in the monsoon rains and exposed to moisture over a period of time. The result was a more mellow and lighter coffee. This coffee however has perhaps been taken just a bit too far in the roasting process to accommodate the milk drinkers, and as an espresso, while robust and full bodied, had a slight taste of char in the after-taste (that would normally be covered up with milk). All in all it was a nice coffee, but probably not something I’d have as an espresso again.

So if you are in the area and able to find a park, this is a great option for your next coffee. The owners are friendly and passionate about their coffee, looking to expand their available single origins and maybe even install a cold drip.
