The Baron - Castlehill
There is a simple rule of thumb when it comes to finding any customer focused business like a cafe. If there is a cue of locals lining up to get in, then you’ve come to the right place. Following the advice of a few people on twitter I ventured all the way out to Castle Hill and put this to the test. While on arrival I managed to squeeze into a bench seat near the window, I quickly realised how lucky I was to get a seat at all. With a 5+min wait on a Saturday seeming to be the norm here, it has got something working for it.

These guys source their beans from Single Origin Roasters and so are already leaps and bounds ahead of other cafes in the area. By the looks of it they also serve Sanoma bread which is a draw card for some I know.

I started off with an espresso from the single origin they were running, a Ethiopia Koke. First off, being in a suburb like this and being able to get a single origin anything is a major bonus, so I was not too disappointed when I wasn’t blown away with the Koke. It is hard to compare though as I have had a rush of really good coffees of late

I then went for the batch brew (again, bonus points) which they switched to the Panama single they had going. It was really confronting to start with. Tasted quite acrid and dry, but as it cooled down, more berries and brightness came through. Again nothing that blew me away, but high marks for trying something interesting.

So if you are after the cafe where all the locals call home, and where you can actually find a decent coffee (and by the looks of it a decent feed as well), then this is a great cafe to try. Certainly better than anything else I have seen in the Towers.
