What I’ve been drinking – El Salvador (La Ilusion)

With the trend towards the lighter roast, Mecca are starting to really do some interesting things with their various coffee offerings. Today, checking out Centro Cafe in Eastwood (first time in 6mths), I went for the El Salvador as a long black to start my day.

At first, it was nice… light… but really nothing special. So I left it… let it cool down a bit… and then tried again. Low and behold a much more interesting coffee appeared. A non-overpowering acidity blended in with the light earthy robustness, and finished with a nice mouth feel.

While certainly a little mysterious given the time it takes for the flavour to present, it was a great coffee to start the day. Perhaps long black need to be served in chilled cups to promote the lighter flavours….?? Just a thought…
