Cafe Centro - Eastwood
Come in through the red doors and enter Eastwood’s version of coffee bliss. It has been a long time since I was last here and a lot has changed for the better. The cafe has been refurbished, they have switched beans to Mecca and they now know how to make a mac the way I like it.

Having first come through here when I was reviewing cafes for Yelp, I was impressed then with how popular this cafe is with the locals, and I am glad to see that while much else has changed, this place is still buzzing with activity. Buzzing is an apt word as I am sure that walking out of here I will enjoy the peace and quiet of the street. This is not a cafe to come to to avoid noise, but the coffee is awesome (and that is all that counts….right??).

Today I started with a single origin double espresso from Ethiopia (Bokasso, from the Wonsho and Sidamo regions) and was not blown away with any particular flavour notes. It is said to have Jasmine, citrus and earl grey notes, but I am guessing that they would show much better in a brewed coffee than an espresso (Unfortunately this cafe does not yet do brewed coffees..) As the cup cooled down I did get a whack of brown sugar, but other than that, it was a good (but not exceedingly special) coffee.

I then tried the house blend as an espresso and was very glad to see that in comparison to the last mac I had here, it was exceptionally done. In fact, I likely enjoyed the house blend more than the single origin. In any case, I really enjoyed this cafe. Some place that is so popular with the locals has to be doing something right. I also look forward to summer when they have said that they will start to serve cold drip coffee here as well.

If you are in the area, this is the cafe to come to.
